The Bet!

Mike and I settled on terms for our bet.  I set my goal to be at 180 lbs by May 31st, and his is 195 lbs.  I would need to lose 38 lbs to reach my goal, and I believe he would need to lose around 33 lbs.  Come May 31st, if each of us reaches our goal, nothing happens.  If one of us does reach it, the one who didn't would owe them $10 for each pound that they missed their goal by.  If both of us miss our goal (the most likely scenario) then whomever missed it by more would owe the other $10 for each pound difference, based off how far you are from your goal, not weight lost.

Go Team Clappy!

December 23, 2013

Alright, I started out on fire.  I was counting every calorie I ate, drinking nothing but water, and getting back into working out.  For a few days my calorie intake was around 1500 calories/day, and I never felt hungry.  Then the holiday season kicked in.  Holiday parties with friends and family, and the worst, holiday parties at work.  My co-workers are the devil.  There is nothing but baked goods, snack foods, and candy around there, and they pressure you into eating it.

The last week didn't go quite as planned, but it wasn't terrible either.  I've realized that counting every calorie you consume for over 5 months is going to be very tedious.  Now, I plan on just eating sensible, and only counting the calories when I eat out, or make something that isn't very healthy, just to be a mental reminder of how bad it actually is for me.  I'm done with counting apples, bananas, two potato chips.....

I'm leaving for Las Vegas today, and then New Years Eve is next week.  My plan now is to enjoy the rest of the year, but be sensible, then start January 2nd with my 5 month workout/diet.  I basically just don't want to gain any weight in the week.

Another goal of mine is to only drink water.  No milk, pop, juice.  Maybe tea and coffee.  We'll see about that.  I am allowing beer on my cheat days, because that is cheating...but in moderation.

I still plan on making weekly updates on this blog, but only posting an update picture once a month.  I just don't feel the changes are going to be drastic enough to post weekly pictures.

Shit just got real...

1 year ago, I was running the occasional 5K and finishing under 30 minutes. I had lost about 20LBs, I was feeling good, and doing P90X. Today, I couldn't run a 5K in under 30 minutes if you paid me. I've regained all the weight I had lost and then some. Grubbin' hard will do that...

What you're about to see, may disturb you.

Weight - 229 LBS
BMI - 34.5% (A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered healthy for adults. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, while a BMI of 30 and above is considered obese)
FAT - 28.5%

(A physical specimen, made of pizza, beer and wings)

Fack. I look like shit...

Goal:
1. Log food intake and blog about what I eat over the next 5 months.
2. Target weight loss will be 30 LBs.
3. Drop BMI to 24%
4. Drop body fat percentage to 18%
5. Crush Mike Clapsade in our bet.

Starting tomorrow. For real this time...

December 14, 2013

Almost 3 years ago, I had lost 95 pounds, and felt good about my weight for the first time in probably 15 years.  Today, I've gained almost half of it back, and decided that I must start getting back into shape today.  My friend Mike suggested that we have a friendly bet (terms yet agreed upon) to see if we can reach our goals by May 31st, and to document it on this blog as sort of a way to keep us accountable and motivated.

I plan to make entries every Saturday or Sunday detailing my workout routine and food consumption for the week, along with a weekly photo of my fat gut.

My starting weight is 218.7 pounds.  My goal weight I'm setting for May 31st is 180 pounds.  Not counting the remaining days in December, that means I will need to lose 7.74 lbs/month...so, almost 2 lbs/week.  I think this is a reasonable goal.  It's very attainable but not too easy either.  I also plan on putting on some muscle mass too, which means I will need to lose even more weight to make up for that.

I'm used to, and enjoy, running in order to lose weight, but this isn't the best time of year to do that due to the weather.  Therefore, I plan on using my home gym 5 to 6 days a week, and the stationary bikes and treadmills at work, along with eating a healthier diet.

I also plan on including 1 cheat day each week, so I don't go insane or want to quit.  I want to use the cheat day to give myself a break from working out if my schedule doesn't allow for it, or to go out to eat or drink for a special occasion...not to be a total pig on those days, and set myself back a whole week.  Looking ahead, this might have a slow start considering I have a Christmas party next week, a trip to Las Vegas the week after that, then New Years Eve, and then going to get a free dinner at the Union Woodshop in January.  After all that gluttony is out of the way, I plan on taking this hardcore, and look forward to the weather clearing up so I can start running outside again.

December 2013

A sad realization came over me again in 2013. I'm still fat. Let's change this in 2014...

A bet with Mike Clapsadle should fuel the fire this year. He's a fatty too.
